Those not currently on the water at the International German Youth Championship (IDJM) 2025 can look forward to a very special sailing experience at the Royal House of the Bavarian Yacht Club (BYC): With Tactical Sailing and the AC40 simulator, sailing becomes an interactive experience – playful, tactical, and educational at the same time.
Tactical Sailing – Sailing with Strategy
Tactical Sailing is more than a game – it's a regatta simulation for anyone who wants to delve deeper into the tactics of sailing. Whether you're a beginner or a regatta sailor: It's all about "boat against boat" and "playing against the wind" – with plenty of fun and learning.
* Learn to sail playfully: How do you steer a boat? What do you have to pay attention to when tacking?
* Tactical tips included: right of way, starting line, wind shifts – the game explains what matters on the water in a practical way.
* For all ages: Beginners discover the basics, advanced sailors improve their tactical thinking. Just drop by, try it out, and immerse yourself in the digital regatta world with other participants! © Club Manager Fabian Duttler BYC. Order Tactical Sailing here. Tactical Sailing order here.
Bavarian Yacht Club: Opti sailors play and train with the simulation on their PC, playfully sail in a slalom around 14 buoys, and tactical tips for training from the start to the finish line.

On the final day, Saturday, August 9th, the International German Optimist Championship, organized by the Bavarian Yacht Club, concluded in Starnberg.
And it was a great success from a Berlin perspective: The title went to Müggelsee!
Henry-Alexander Huebener of SV Rahnsdorf narrowly prevailed over the Ukrainian Olha Lubianska after just eight races, beating her by just one point.
Olha Lubianska from Ukraine has already sailed very successfully at several German regattas, including the 2021 IDJM on Lake Chiemsee and the 2024 in Travemünde. Like Henry and Jonny, she also competed at the last World Championships in Slovenia/Portorož and, as the best of the girls' group, even became "World Champion."
Jonny Seekamp of WSV Hemelingen / Bremen somewhat unluckily finished third on the podium after leading for a long time. Jonny showed what he's capable of at the World Championships in Slovenia/Portorož with 281 participants. There, he sailed to a sensational 8th place – a result rarely achieved by a German competitor in recent years.

The sailing conditions in Travemuende on Saturday couldn't have been better: sunshine and 3-4 Beaufort from the northeast with a nice wave. All teams without exception demonstrated their tactical skills, their ability to work as a team and sporting fairness. There were flights that were decided at the start and others where the winner was only decided on the finish line.
Team Race: The best teams: 1st place: “WM-Team” with Jasper Porthun, Jonny Seekamp, Tizian Lambeck, Nicolas Troeger and Paul Fiete Hickstein, 2nd place: “Team West” with Noah Schweichler, Emily Schweichler, Bent Baar and Lea Marie Winkler, 3rd place: “Team MSC 1” with Jacob Ottmann, Paul Jeschonnek, Annemarie Siepmann, Sarah Krupp.

The first two starting groups of the day (yellow/violet) sailed an outer loop course, the third starting group (orange) an inner loop course. All starts went smoothly, i.e. no long starting procedures, no black flag, remarkable on the first day of the season highlight for the youngest class. But: “That shouldn’t have happened to us,” some of the 14 Opticracks in Group Purple are probably thinking. They sailed around the wrong windward mark and received an “NSC” (Did Not Sail the Course) and 81 points in the first race of the day. The final series was actually supposed to start on Friday. It was another qualification day for everyone due to a jury decision. It was about the first race of Group Purple on Tuesday. Sailors had applied for compensation. The jury rule: This race must be repeated.
There were good sailing and land conditions for the sailors, their coaches and parents on the Travemuende - a great sea area for the Opticracks, even if the summer wind was sometimes "bitchy".
